I became a sociologist because it allowed me to understand the inequalities in society outside of my own personal experiences and because it suggested real possibilities for ending these inequalities. As a professor, my role now is to develop students’ understandings of sociological concepts and theories, make them aware of the inequalities in the social world by applying those concepts and theories to the world around them, and hopefully inspire them to create positive social change in their own communities. In this way, my pedagogy reflects my broader passion for and commitment to social justice.

What Students Say...

Research Methods:

I liked how I learned about all the styles of research methods and for the future I may be able to create my very own research project which can serve me in my master's program. I believe this is essential, especially if you are a sociology major.

Race and Ethnic Relations:

Eli is FANTASTIC!!! The subject at hand is a delicate one and they mastered discussion better than any other.

Statistics:

As someone who struggles with math, I feel that this professor is able to make the material very clear, understandable, and even easy after doing examples as a class together.
